Biography:

Divine Birth and Discovery at Pamba: Lord Ayyappa's birth was a divine act aimed at restoring balance to the universe. Born from the union of Lord Shiva (Hara) and Lord Vishnu’s Mohini avatar (Hari), he is revered as 'Hariharaputra.' As per divine destiny, the infant was left on the banks of the Pamba River in Kerala. King Rajasekhara of Pandalam, who was childless and out on a hunt, found the radiant baby with a golden bell (Mani) around his neck. Considering him a blessing, the King took him to the palace.

Manikanta as the Prince of Pandalam: The King named the boy 'Manikanta' and raised him as the crown prince. Manikanta displayed extraordinary wisdom and prowess in martial arts, Vedas, and scriptures from a very young age. He was beloved by the people of Pandalam for his kindness and justice. However, after the birth of the Queen’s biological son, a palace conspiracy led by the Prime Minister influenced the Queen to plot against Manikanta to ensure her own son would inherit the throne.

The Queen’s Plot and the Quest for Tiger's Milk: The Queen feigned a life-threatening illness, claiming that only the milk of a tigress could cure her. Knowing the forest was full of danger, she hoped Manikanta would not return. Out of deep love and duty toward his mother, Manikanta volunteered to venture into the dense forest alone. This courageous act was the turning point that eventually led to the fulfillment of his divine mission on Earth.

Annihilation of Mahishi and Divine Revelation: In the forest, Manikanta encountered the demoness Mahishi, who had become invincible due to a boon. He engaged her in a fierce battle and eventually slew her, liberating the gods and humanity from her tyranny. Following the victory, Lord Indra and other deities transformed into tigers to assist him. Manikanta returned to the palace riding a fierce tiger, leaving the Queen and the ministers in awe and realization of his true divinity.

Sabarimala and the Eternal Presence: Having fulfilled his earthly mission, Manikanta revealed his divine form to King Rajasekhara. He instructed the King to build a temple at a spot where his arrow would land—this location was the Sabarimala hill. He then merged into the idol, choosing to reside there as a 'Naishtika Brahmachari' (eternal celibate) in a meditative posture. To this day, he welcomes millions of devotees at Sabarimala, teaching the supreme truth of 'Tat Tvam Asi' (Thou Art That).
